Characters
On XMM:XF, we use a lot of terms to
define the different types of
character on game.
Main Characters
MCs are those characters who are actively involved with the X-Factor team on a daily basis, such as team members. We focus our stories and plots on our MCs, and they are subject to our idle policy. Players may have up to two MCs, and must have at least one MC.
Supporting Characters
SCs are defined as those characters who are not actively involved with the X-Factor team on a daily basis. These can be normal citizens, family members, friends, villains, outside informants and contacts, or many other things. Players may have as many SCs as they like, however the focus of the game is not on SCs. Players should not expect plots run for SCs and should understand that SCs exist as supporting players to the main story. They provide color and flesh out our world, and do not have full on-camera stories of their own.
See our alts policies for more info on MCs and SCs.
Feature Characters
An FC (Feature Character) is a character who comes from canon. That means that Marvel made them up and defined at least their basic attributes, whether in the movie or in a comic. FCs are almost always Main Characters.
See our FC policies for more information.
Original Characters
An OC (Original Character) is a blank slate created just for roleplay; you write them from start to finish, and they can be anything you want them to be. An OC is where your skills at character creation get to shine. There’s such a wide range of personalities, powers, and histories you can try your hand at. You have more freedom to engage in RP that might drastically change your character - an OC is yours to do with as you wish.
Historically, XMM has tended to be roughly 60% Original Characters and 40% Feature Characters, with OCs and FCs interacting freely - in fact, if you don't have a vast comic knowledge, it can often be difficult to tell who's who.
NPCs
NPCs (Non-Played Characters) are those characters who show up just to fill out a scene. In general, players are free to NPC as they choose and feel appropriate, and we expect that players will use them responsibly.
