The Pegasus mission takes its name from the ship which carried a team of mutants into space in order to destroy an asteroid bound for earth.
The asteroid, designated 24021-Loki, hurtled toward the Earth on a collision course; using their combined mutant powers and technology courtesy of Stark Industries, the team successfully diverted the course of the asteroid fragments and prevented them from destroying civilization as we know it. This mission is what outed the X-Men to the world and obtained a full pardon for Magneto's past crimes.
