Puente Sobre is a small village which sits along the Rio Mico about 15 miles from Rama and the Escondido River (about 75 miles upriver from Bluefields). In 2009, it was extremely rustic, with no electricity. Since then, villagers have gained unstable electricity thanks to a hydro-electric dam about ten miles upriver.
The people have lived there for generations, and many of them are descendants of the native peoples of the area, Misquitos and Sumos. The population is devoted almost entirely to farming, but there is a small but steady business as guides for foreigners who travel to Puente Sobre to see the rainforest.
A small dirt road connects the town and Rama, a bumpy, twisty, unsafe thing that barely allows rugged trucks to pass. Most traffic comes by horseback or foot.

- Nearby Sandinista base. It is a small outpost in the Nicaraguan Highlands about 10 miles from Puente Sobre. The dirt road continues up toward this outpost, which is a small collection of about 8 buildings, most of them older, with a fence that runs around the area. It's been there at least 15 years.
